WHAT IS THE TREATMENT OF DENTAL ABCESS?
Your dentist has the knowledge to drain the abcess, don't hesitate to consult him. After the drainage you will feel a great relief of symptoms.
For your protection your dentist will give you antibiotic for several days after the drainage just to clear any remaining infection.
Although some studies have shown that the antibiotic is not necessary once the abcess is eliminated, but it remains important to see your doctor.
Pain killers may be administrated to control discomfort. In the future your dentist can plan another treatment like root canal which has as goal to restore the damaged part of the tooth and save the it.
Sometime the tooth can need to be removed.
When the tooth left untreated, it will have hard consequences on your health like:
*propagation of the infection
*The abcess may appear onto the face or into the mouth to release its content.
*Osteomyelitis
*Sinusitis
*Dental cyst (liquid filled cavity) may appear in the case of dental abcess
