AFTER DENTAL SURGERY CARE

That can arrive, following dental oral surgery you feel some discomfort such as: pain,swelling and bleeding. Don’t be hesitated to call or to share your problems with your surgeon.

Usually before any surgery, you surgeon will give you” Freezing “(or local anesthetic) just to numb the portion of your oral cavity that will be treated.

After the numbness wears off, you can feel some pain that is normal. This pain can be excessive during the first 24 to 48 hours after the anesthetic action is over.

It is recommended more often to rest after tooth surgery, to respect the medicare, what facilitates the healing even though you are a busy person.

What to do after dental surgery

· It is not recommended  to drink alcohol while taking pain reliever.

· Some of pain relievers cause drowsiness that is why it is not allowed driving to any where. Ask someone else to go with you.

· Avoid taking more drugs than recommended.

After tooth surgery care,stop the bleeding

Your dentist will place over the wound a gauze pad for 45 to an hour. You will have to press firmly on that gauze with your teeth.

Probably during the first one to two hours after surgery, you will probably bleed. Don’t be afraid 

This is maybe a false impression where blood and saliva mix together in your month. Thus, you believe that you are bleeding more than you really are.

What to do more after dental surgery care

· Maintain firm and constant pressure on the gauze.

· Use another gauze for 45 to an hour if you continue bleeding.

· Keep your head a few higher using a secondary pillow for that.

· Take care of your mouth as you do every day, brush and flossing normally avoiding traumatizing the treated area.

· After 24 hours you will start with mouthwash or warm water added to  ½ teaspoon of salt, you rinse four or five times a day for  four days.

What you have to avoid doing

· Avoid chewing on the wound or on the gauze.

· It is not recommended to use mouthwash within the first 24 hours, even though you have bad taste.

· Avoid driving car or machines if you are taking narcotic pain killers.

· Hot liquids like coffee and tea increase the flow of blood (circulation) and the bleeding can restart.

· Alcohol and tobacco are not advised for 2 weeks because they can trouble the blood clot, cause infection or delay healing.

Minimize the swelling

After oral surgery, your mouth may swell during the first 24 hours. And that lasts about 7 days. If you apply some advises, you will arrive probably to lessen this condition such as:

1. Use a cold compress on the swollen area during the first day.

2. Maintain the cold compress in place for 10 minutes and take it off for 10 minutes and repeat the same procedure.

3. You can  put something warm on the swollen area during the second day. The warmth has as goal to decrease swelling and increase blood flow (or local circulation)

Sore Jaw

You jaw muscles maybe painful and make your mouth harder to open and chew foods. To minimize gently the area.

1. Use a warm moist  face cloth to massage gently the area.

2. Take foods easy to chew.

In  spite of these instructions if you see one of these factors mentioned above persists, call your dentist to have more information about care after dental surgery.
