CAVITY FILLING
Cavity Fillings, does it
interest you? Do you never feel pain from tooth cavity? Do you
feel embarrassing about the decision to adopt? If so, you are
going to find solution with your worry because there are
different types of cavity fillings to teach you and the
material used for each.
Thus, you will already have an idea about that which
facilitates a good expectation with your dentist.
What does that mean cavity
fillings?
That can arrive a part of a tooth is decay,
broken down, cracked or after root canal; to restore that lost
area, the dentist has to uses certain materials which are
different each other (amalgam filling , composite, ionomere,
veneer…..).
The choice of each filling cavities will do
depending on the situation of the tooth: is it a front tooth?
Or back tooth? Is it a crown or root?
Usually, when caries reach the enamel or dentin, it is easier
for the dentist to restore the tooth and less expensive for the
patient.
If the caries are not treated, the process
continues its way to reach the pulp. If nothing is done again
few times later, the pulp will be died
At this step the better way to save the
tooth is to practice an endodontic treatment (root canal) where
the dentist will take blood vessels and nerves away.
After that, a filling material will be
used in the root and the intervention will be more
expensive.
However if the root canal (treatment) is not
done, the process always follows its way to occur surrounding
tissues of the root where complications are imminent(abscess,
cellulites…).
At this moment the lost of tooth is obvious.
There are two forms of fillings.
I- Root
After taking blood vessels and nerves away,
the dentist use a filling material no irritating for the
surrounding area to the root apex.
II- Crown
The dentist will remove the infected area
with an especial instrument. All soft tissues have to be
removed to avoid all decay recidivist.
The restoration is the filling of cavities
left after removing soft tissue. It consists to restore the
form and function of the tooth.
1)How are fillings or the dental restoration realized in the
tooth?
After removing all soft tissue or giving an appropriate form to
type of material that will be used for the tooth filling, to be
sure that will stay in place, the dentist uses an intermediate
layer to protect the pulp before putting the dental
material.
The intermediate may be zinc oxide and eugenol, glass ionomere
or other material types. Some of them are useful for the teeth
because they release fluoride constantly to prevent further
decay.
2)What causes sensitivity after
filling?
The most of patients after a filling have
experienced some sensitivity in their teeth either to air,
sweet foods, acid food, pressure or cold water.
Depending on quality of material used, the sensitivity maybe
temporary and lasts two to three weeks.
People react differently to a
particular material used for the restoration and that the
dentist can not predict. If that happens, don't hesitate to tell
that to you dentist he will know what to do.
Sometimes if the cavity is not thoroughly filled up and a part
of dentin is exposed what can cause sensitivity. In the other
side, if by neglect or error the dentist doesn't respect all
process of fillings recommended by manufacturer.
3)Why pain after feeling?
Other people feel pain after a feeling
when biting. This can be a premature contact and deserves to be
corrected.
If the cavity prepared for filling is too
deep, and the material is to close the pulp. the use of
intermediate layer will solve the problem.
The pain occurs when there are different
materials used in two opposite teeth. For example: Gold is in
upper tooth and amalgam is in lower tooth. That produces an
electric current.
When old filling lost a little part during
the work what allows the retention of food debris causing pain.
To solve that, the dentist will have to correct it by a new
material.
If people took a little time to treat
their teeth, so they should avoid a lot of complications
(illness) while they win their health, time, and money.
It is better for you to see your dentist who
helps you choice the appropriate treatment with the cavity
fillings.
