Dental Caries

Dental caries do you know that is a disease which doesn't make difference of sex, race, and economic social level?

Do you agree with us that is the number one cause of the teeth lost?

Wouldn't you like to know how to prevent dental caries? Frequently known as tooth decay,tooth Cavities is a disease characterized by the disintegration of the hard tissues of the teeth (enamel, dentin, and cementum).

That forms open cavities due to the acids action resulting from carbohydrates fermentation by many mouth bacteria.

That disintegration is in part a demineralization and a dissolution of dental tissue.

Dental caries are the most common disease of the teeth and the most found in man in all ages of both sexes. Unfortunately the tooth can not be repaired by the body itself.

Dental Caries Stages

Some of cavities develop very quickly and destroy all tooth structures. This is the case of children caries or resulting from harmful factors.

Others finally stop growing and the tooth surface becomes brown or black.

If the tooth is not treated, the caries will reach the pulp. That latter will be dead. Symptomatology

Cavity indicators, in the case of simply Caries (That means, the pulp is not attacked yet) are multiple, discrete and always late.

We can mention:

The pain, when it exists (sometimes a cavity may develop without pain) is characterized by:

* Starting causes: Food or toothbrush in contact with the tooth.

* Sugars, acids

* Cold, warm

Remember that there is not spontaneous pain. It may depend on:

Its intensity that varies from an unpleasant simple feeling to a pain usually weak into temporary teeth.

Its time is short. This starts with beginning factor and stops with it.

It is very well localized, there is not irradiation.

Signs

1-Food stagnation into the tooth.

2-Uneven shape perceived by the tongue or on the cheeks

3-A broken tooth

Treatment

It is very important for the clinician to remove all of soft tissues of the tooth so,to prevent all recurrence beneath the restoration.

For this latter the dentist use the most appropriate filling material.

Prevention

The best way to fight a disease is by prevention. This is why the one of objectives of dentistry is to prevent dental caries rather than treat it.Nowadays many country try to use fluoridated products.

Studies have given some methods for the partial control and prevention of dental caries.

1-Dietary Control

Promote a diet low in carbohydrates. It was proved that the strict control of carbohydrates food in the diet for two weeks produced significant reduction in the caries incidence.Take more food asking a masticatory pressure.

2-Good Oral Hygiene

Always brush the teeth after eating and treat early any gingivitis or parodontitis.Correct any overlapping, bad position of teeth or deep grooves.

3-Fluorine

The use of fluoridated water (1ppm) will give a level of protection against caries in children.

The fluorine can block the enzymes produced by microorganism so that they could not act on carbohydrates to produce acid.
