Partial
Dentures
Partial dentures represent
appliances designed for replacing one or more missing natural
teeth. They are either removable or permanent.
They have for role to :
• Enhance your face aesthetic
• Allow chewing more comfortable and easier when you eat
what ever things.
• Replace teeth that have been removed or restore your
facial symmetry.
• Stop drifting of neighboring teeth.
To place normally a partial dentures, you must
have other remaining teeth in your mouth that serve as support
to anchor the partial to.
Usually metal frame works are used to connect replacement
teeth fixed into pink or gum colored plastic bases.
Thus, these are teeth on the removable partial that will
replace your missing teeth and will be held in place by
metal clasps. The latter will attach to your natural
teeth.
Disadvantages of removable
partial
The difference between partial denture and bridge has been
done. Recently studies have proved that the risk for supporting
teeth to become loose is substantially bigger than if you had a
permanent bridge in mouth.
Statistic information explain the difference between both
where 92% of supporting teeth having a permanent bridge were
intact, and 56% of supporting teeth having removable partial
were intact.
The reason could be the accumulation of plaque and tartar in
theses zones.
It seems the metal clasps have tendency to trap food debris
and that’s why you must keep your regular recare exam
appointments.
Your dentist is better place to advise you and help protect
supporting teeth.
Procedure
This procedure can require three to four visits
• During your first visit, special materials(alginate) will
be used by your dentist. The impressions of your jaw will be
taken with color, shade of your teeth and bite
relationship.
Just after, these information are sent to a dental
laboratory where a dental technician will prepare a partial
dentures that fits only you.
• For the next appointment, a wax model is prepared in the
typical position and shape that the metal or acrylic is to be
in.
Remember that the material for your partial can be made
either in acrylic or metal. The wax pattern with metal will be
replaced by the “ last wax” technique.
Normally, the metal frame work must be cast, polished and
the plastic or acrylic, color and shape of removed tooth
teeth.
Then, on a rust proof metal frame work with gum colored
plastic bases are fixed the replacement teeth.
The metal portion is attached to adjacent natural teeth to
support the denture in place.
• During the third appointment you receive your work and
other visits can be planned for adjustments.

partial denture?
It is not unusual the first weeks will not be enjoyable
mainly if you get used to wearing that for the first time. You

appliance?
