Wisdom teeth what are they? Why are they called like that? Are they really important in the mouth? Let see together.
In the human mouth there are four categories of teeth. Each category that has a erupted possess a specific name and function.
In adults there are normally 32 permanent teeth localized in two jaws.
The upper jaw has sixteen teeth and the lower jaw has sixteen too.
You have the incisors situated in front of the mouth that are responsible to cut and are divided in two groups central incisors and lateral incisors.
Canines adopted as angular teeth have for role to tear.More posterior are bicuspids and molars.
They have to chew food, to reduce them in fine particles which allow better to swallow.
The digestion will be more easy. The upper molars have three roots whereas the lower molars have two roots. The bicuspids have one or two and the others often possess one root.
In each half jaw there are three molars. The third molar is called wisdom tooth because it is the last tooth erupted in the mouth between 18 and 24 years old.
The name (wisdom tooth) comes from the idea that people become wiser, more mature during this age.
It is not always easy to clean them view their position. The development of wisdom teeth is done in a small hollow in jaws.
The crown is the first to be developed.Few times latter with the development of roots, the tooth begins to move slowly, piercing the bone to arrive in the mouth.
In the case where there is not enough room to receive it in the mouth, it will remain trapped in the bone and that is called impacted wisdom teeth.
Normally there are four third molars in the oral cavity; that means there are two in the left side upper and lower- two in the right side one upper and one lower.
That should be a great advantage for the mouth if the wisdom tooth appeared well in their good position without causing problem to bite and gum.
But frequently, that is not always the case when the jaw is too little; there is not enough possibility to accommodate these special teeth.
They can erupt side ways causing damage often to gum.
Sometimes they remain impacted thoroughly under gum and bone or point out only little part from gum causing very often gum diseases.
The dentist may recommend wisdom tooth extraction if they are partially pointed out and facilitate retention of debris.
• Cause damage to adjacent teeth by pressure and engender severe pain.
In sum if these teeth appear in normal position and don’t cause pain in the mouth that will be a great asset.
In the case where you did not see yet all your teeth, we encourage you to ask yourself if are they impacted wisdom teeth?
